The Finder is the default application program used on the Mac OS and Mac OS X operating systems that is responsible for the overall user-management of files, disks, network volumes and the launching of other applications. As such the Finder acts like the shell on other operating systems, but using a graphical user interface. It was introduced with the very first Macintosh computer, and also existed as part of GS/OS on the Apple IIGS. It underwent a complete rewrite with Apple's switch to a UNIX-based OS in Mac OS X.

Great window manager, but I don't know if I'd prefer it over the Windows Vista Explorer. Finder is clean, simple, and does tasks fast, and Leopard's Finder is greatly improved however there is something about Vista's explorer that Finder doesn't have.
Actually I prefer Finder over Windows because I'm soooo used to it.
thanks
LOVE IT
I really don't like finder. It's hard to use the way I want to, and it goes along with an operating system that needs some changes.
Buggy in Leopard =(
I use both Leopard and Vista intensively each day. Vista's Windows Explorer is vastly superior to Finder. It is possible to find things incredibly quickly and the interface is completely customisable.
Microsoft stole a few ideas from Finder for Vista, but the breadcrumb-trail / location bar is original and very effective.
ultimate desktop experience
I ♥ Finder!!
Don't know where I would be without this little gem, does everything I want to do and efficiently. :)
I think I need to try Path Finder too.
I installed OS X on my PC not too long ago to try it out. I have to say, apart from some programs that I chose to forget, Finder is one of the worst attempts at something to manage files with I have ever encountered. The 'feel' of what files you have just isn't there. What is even more disturbing is the fact that you can't cut and paste files. You have to copy and delete, who came up with that stupid idea? (To clear things up, I am talking about the Tiger version, I have no idea about Leopard).
Easy to find what I need
Finder is intuitive but there's room for improvement. Keep up the good job, Apple!
For those wanting more power, try Path Finder (shareware):
