Gmail, officially Google Mail in Germany and the United Kingdom, is a free POP3 and IMAP webmail service provided by Google. On April 1, 2004 the product began as an invitation-only beta release. On February 7, 2007 the beta version was opened to the general public. To this day, the service has remained in beta status. With an initial storage capacity of over 7 GB, it drastically increased the standard for free storage.

best email ever
I've been using Gmail since it still required invites and I sent many invites out after becoming hooked on it. It has been reliable and is easy to use whether you're familiar with email or not. The storage space is great if you have family who don't know how to resize photos. Also the other Google services are easily accessible through the Gmail inbox.
Great webmail service, but Windows Live Hotmail's Outlook-like interface with drag and drop + context menus are more intuitive and easier to use.
WLHM also has unlimited storage compared to Gmail's puny 7.5gb or whatever it is.

I think Gmail - is the best e-mail service in the world currently. Friendly Ajax interface, very rich functionality and best antispam filtering! Allowing corporate domain e-mail service whith no headaches for system administrators. No more gigabytes of spam traffic into corporate physical network.
One of the best webmail services I've used, integrates well into Firfox too.
Gmail maybe still in beta but I love it. It is great :) Easy to use.
